Growing up in Maryland, my family had the privilege of attending a small church in Rockville, MD. This was not just any church. This church is the church we compare all other churches to. This church was so special to my parents and us that we drove past a half-dozen other Adventist Churches to attend there. The difference was simple… family. We had friends there that we still, to this day, keep up with. Friendships that are so deep, you can only describe them as Family.
As Traci and I leave North Carolina and move to Kentucky, we both agree (my father does too), New Life Fellowship of Chapel Hill was our “Rockville” in North Carolina. We have friends here that mean the world to us, friends that will forever be family.
The memories I have are many, but here are 11 of my favorites…
- Rafting down the New River, and nearly getting tossed out on the very first Class 1 rapid.
- Moving into Traci’s home, and 10 of my “family” show up to help us move in.
- Playing bass in the praise band every week, and performing with Turning Point (Rainey, Dave, Pam, Laura, Doug, Lettie, and Keith, you guys can never be replaced).
- The race to the alter (Traci and I beat Rainey and Laura by days, so they had to copy us on everything).
- Sabbath afternoon biking trips down Crabtree Creek, or through Olmstead Park.
- Cramming 30 people into our little, tiny house for Potluck or Game Night.
- Dinner out or poker with the guys.
- Keith, Joe, Jayce, Henry, Jason, and I discover, it is possible to score a 0 in Call of Duty 4.
- Hitting my best tee shot on the 9th hole, off the light pole, and bouncing back down the cart path as Dave, Brian, Brad, and I all roll on the ground laughing.
- Friday nights with Doc, Kathy, and Terry just bringing in the Sabbath.
- Matt, Cindy, and Morgan... guys there are no other words needed.
I’ve now been lucky to have my own Rockville, and hopefully this won’t be our last. But I hope that someday, my children will be able to find their Rockvilles, because they are truly special.

My dad came down for the weekend from MD and a group of our friends had decided to go see Superman Returns at the local IMAX Theater in Raleigh. We got 3 tickets and went Sunday afternoon. The movie is superb. The 3D stuff… eh. You’re not missing much by watching the movie at home later, but the movie is still very good.
I have to say the addition of the love triangle and the little ripple in Lana’s family makes for a great story. I loved the special effects, and it really set it up for more movies to follow too, but not at the detriment to the current movie.

This year, we double dipped on Father’s Day. We combined our trip to Washington, DC to see my family with a wedding on Sunday of our good friends, who have been dating for the past 7 years! Let’s just say it was a joyous celebration.
On Sabbath, we made it to my Dad’s house just in time for lunch. The plans were to eat something light so we would still be hungry for a bar-b-cue in a couple hours that we were hosting. A few friends and family were coming over just to be together since Jeremy was back from California, and Traci & I were up from NC. The food was good, but the company was great. We laughed and joked for about 4 hours on a hot summer afternoon in DC. After the last person left, we took everything back inside and spent the evening watching a movie in the basement.
The next morning, we got up and pretty much prepared for the wedding at 11:30 AM. The service was beautiful. Mike, you are definitely one of a kind. I can never say I’ve seen the groom come in to the theme from Mission Impossible, and the wedding party recess to the theme from Star Wars. The reception also was a blast, and was still going after we left at 5 PM to try and catch Ryan (the young man who sang with Ariane at our wedding). We were able to finally thank him for singing, and then headed for home.
On the way home we made one quick detour, to visit Papa’s Camp. It was a lot of fun to show Traci around the camp, explaining where we would go and what we did while down there every summer. It just brought back a ton of memories. Here’s hoping we can create some memories for our children there someday.

For the second year in a row, the Young Adults of New Life Fellowship SDA Church have made a trip to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA. The day was a lot of fun, riding roller coasters and eating lots of bad for you food. We caught a couple of shows, and rode all the coasters we wanted before heading home. I love this church!

What an amazing weekend! Sam Lenor spoke and shared the love of God with us. Then a great biker band played. All weekend, our praise team from New Life Fellowship played for the services, and it was a great time. It really strengthened our love of God.

My best friend from college just completed his degree in Computer Science. I wish we could have been there to see him march, but the ceremony was on a weeknight. We were able to go up for the party on the weekend, where we got to see all of Dan's and Ariane's families. It was a great time. Again, Congrats Dan. I'm proud you completed your degree.

Just returned from a short weekend in Maryland where my lifelong friend and a groomsman from his wedding was married. I was one of the best man (there were 3). It was a total blast but very tiring.

Wow, who would have thought Louiville could be so nice. Traci and I just returned from a great trip to visit friends who are expecting their first child. They just found out it's going to be a boy. Kelly is so excited.
